My understanding regarding Mortar and Pestle – Essay
Mortar And Pestle is a device used for many needs in different type of field. A number of old mortar & pestles crafted from stone have shown up in archaeological sites in the Americas, Middle East, and Australia but simultaneously unknown. Mortar and pestle are known as the grinder/pounder. The name mortar and pestle gained it name from Middle English word derived from Latin word. The English "mortar" derives from classical Latin mortarium, meaning, among several other usages, "receptacle for pounding" and "product of grinding or pounding". The classical Latin pestillum led to the English "pestle", meaning "pounder".

Mortar and Pestle has its own characteristic. Mortar is a bowl shaped, heavy and strong. Besides, it has a rough surface outside and smooth inside. It is basically used has the crush container. On the other hand, Pestle is a light weight, club shaped, rough and long stone. It’s function is to grind and pondering particles. Mortar and Pestle comes in many materials such as Stone, Marble, Hard Wood used for grind pepper, rice and cereal, Porcelain to reduce particle size and Ceramic to grind small particles.

Mortar and Pestle functions influenced many people around the world. Example, in medical traditional convention way for crushing and mixing medicine, drug preparation and grind herbs. Hence, in many country and region Mortar and Pestle has different usage like in Japan, very large mortars are used with wooden mallets to prepare mochi. Granite mortars and pestles are used in Southeast Asia, as well as in India and China for food preparation, grind herbs and roots. In India, it's used extensively to make spice mixtures for various delicacies as well as day to day dishes. It is traditional in various Hindu ceremonies (such as weddings, and upanayanam) to crush turmeric in these mortars. Large stone mortars, with long (2–3 feet) wood pestles were used in West Asia to grind meat for a type of meatloaf, or kibbeh, as well as the hummus variety known as masabcha.

3 Creativity Ideas Of Uses Of Mortar & Pestle In The Future

In current modern world, Mortar and Pestle are less fascinating and people intend to use blender instead of wasting effort on this traditional item. So, in order to keep the Mortar and Pestle in memory and its function without changing its physical character, we should re-use it as following. The following images are caption of my ideas in drawing form. 

1)   Use it as a bowl to serve traditional, spicy and hot dishes.
-       A container to serve food in high class restaurant and hotel.



2)   Use it as a re-heating and cooking container in microwave and gas stove.
-       In India, people used to cook or re-heat food using container made from mud. The food use to be delicious because of the original container and traditional cooking. Mortar and pestle has the same characteristic as the traditional container.




3)   Can be used to plant small plant and store spices or even be used for decorative product in house leaving hall and kitchen and even in high class restaurant and hotel.
